There are currently nine AussieVelo national cycle touring routes (AV1to AV9) in planning. These routes will provide over 38,000km of informed cycle touring routes, and together form a network of cycle touring connecting capital cities and places of significance and interest across Australia.
These routes are in first draft form, and comment is sought from interested persons to better delineate the routes, and potentially suggest additional National routes. A guide to National route requirements is provide on the ‘Routes’ page.
AussieVelo Regional Routes will be developed as the National routes are better defined. These Regional Routes will provide local connectivity and provide circuits of discovery from the capital cities.
For example, there are a number of National routes running east-west in regional NSW, NSW regional routes will be developed running north-south that join these, such as Canberra-Parkes-Lightning Ridge. This route will also allow a circuit from Sydney, ie AV3 to Canberra, AV2x to Parkes, AV4 back to Sydney; or Sydney to Brisbane via inland NSW.
